The Emporia Municipal Band is one of the oldest city bands in Kansas (see our history page!), having been in existence since about 1890. It is made up of approximately 45 musicians from the area, who come from all walks of life, but all share a love for music and playing their instruments.

The EMB is financed by the City of Emporia, using a small mill levy. This money pays the musicians (about $25.00 per concert), buys music and necessary equipment, and pays for the crew who moves and sets up the performance site.

The Band performs ten regular concerts each year, starting with the Memorial Day service at Soden's Grove, and then every Thursday evening at 8:00 in the Band Pavilion at Fremont Park (4th and Union).

Prospective members participate in an "audition rehearsal" in May, and new members are selected from those who audition. We also keep a large list of substitutes who are available to fill in as needed.

Anyone wishing to play in the EMB should contact Gary McCarty (garynmccarty@gmail.com)  or James Davis (a.band.director@gmail.com).
